PPCC Vol.1

PPCC Vol.1

This book consists of photographs taken between 2009 and 2022. During this period, I have produced three books: ‘study’, ‘this year’s model’, ‘photocopy’ and ‘DonQuixote’ (all in RONDADE), which is currently in progress. Some of them were taken with the hope of being published in the respective collections, while others were taken while walking around with my camera on a regular basis and snapped aimlessly. In other words, these are photos that I have taken quite often and have accumulated on my PC without being able to publish them. The photos published in the collection are better, and the photos that remain on my PC are of poor quality. This is not the case by any means, but as a result, there is always an accumulation of photos that cannot be published. This dilemma can be solved if I produce the work myself, without waiting for or expecting someone else’s judgment.
It took me a long time to realize this.

The composition of the book was left entirely up to the designer, Hirokazu Matsuda. I ordered only that the book be in A5 format and have as many pages as possible. The book I made with RONDADE has special specifications and high precision, and it is not something that can be imitated, so I aimed to make my own book as moderate as possible, a normal book. I was a little surprised, and frankly happy, to see photos taken more than 10 years ago and photos taken this year, which are not out of place in the book.

In contrast to the A5, 600-page volume, the “DonQuixote” book, published by RONDADE, is larger in size and thinner. The two books are actually twins, and for both books, the fact that there are two books at the beginning of production had a great influence on the specifications of each other’s books, the selection of photographs, and everything else. If ‘DonQuixote’ is a large finished puzzle, this ‘PPCC’ is like a collection of puzzle pieces taken apart. When this book is assembled, it becomes ‘DonQuixote’, and when it is taken apart, it becomes ‘PPCC’. When I think of this, the specification of the book, which is entirely cut off and has no blank pages at all, makes a lot of sense.
